IN
THE HUDDLE

January 1, 2008 -
The past few weeks have been busy for everyone. At a recent
practice we had alumni Jessie Cole and Leilani Russell visit from
Virginia; it was good to see them. Over the holiday break Sarah
arranged for a couple of Holiday Workouts. Now that Thanksgiving
and Christmas have passed, everyone can concentrate on the next
scheduled holiday.
It is now the New Year and we are all ready to
make, start, and try to follow through on our New Year’s
Resolutions. For the past several years my resolution to get fit
and exercise more for health reasons starts out great. I’m good for
one or two months and then PHHT! It goes down the tubes. This
happens because I am a mom, wife and I work two jobs (I teach and
work as a hostess at a restaurant). Well, on top of getting fit,
being a better person in 2008, and doing my jobs well, I have one
more to add to my list of resolutions…make it to more practices and
get to know the team and players better. I want to become more
involved with the team and get to understand the plays. The more I
get to know the better sense it makes to me, which allows me to
write more from the heart.
It’s tough trying to find time for everyone and
everything in a busy schedule. As I have watched practices since
fall, I look to see all the names of participants in those
practices. Sadly, the number of players attending consistently has
dropped since we moved inside. We are still picking up new people
and the core of the team is really coming together, but where is
everyone else? When a team practices together they not only get to
know the game, but they become one when they move. All movement
should become fluid to the extent that you can see each member move
and react knowing what their teammate is thinking before it happens.
I have met many of the players currently listed
on the roster, but some of the spotlight features have been
difficult because I don’t actually know the face that goes with the
name. I really hope to meet every team member and put a face with
each name in 2008.
SPITFIRE!
