THREE AND OUT

FOOTBALL THE COACH TED WAY

By Ted Moore

October 15, 2007 - We had a very good turnout for the October 7th practice, but we still need more line players.  In my opinion, the line is the best place to play because of the constant action and the fact that you always get to hit someone until the play is over!

Our lone returning starter from last year is Shirley Davis, a 2-year veteran.  Nose guard is Shirley’s best position because her raw strength makes it very hard for just one person to move her out of the way for runs up the middle.  Shirley was put in the nose guard position her first year against Milwaukee and shut down their bunch offense.

The departure of two defensive line mainstays means that this year’s defensive line will feature a good number of brand new, very talented players to complement Shirley and help establish a strong Spitfire defensive front.  I’m looking to run with chase-side and strong-side tackle & end pairings this year.  This will allow us to shut down the run (since this is mostly a running league) and force teams to pass.  I will be watching players to see if they have what it takes to be a killer on the D-line!!  If you want to play, come on out; and if you know someone who could contribute, please send or bring her to me (smile).  Until next week…
