November 15, 2007 - Denise has the Spitfire spirit through and
through. She has three seasons of experience and is back yet
again. Denise says “I don’t remember (what happened), all I know is
someone fell on me and that’s when I heard ‘SNAP’.” It was at West
Michigan and early in the second quarter of only the second game
last season when Denise broke her ankle – she has not stopped
fighting to get back to playing football since. Her doctors claim
she will be “good as new” as soon as her physical rehabilitation is
complete and have recently cleared her to begin practicing again on
that surgically-repaired ankle.
Growing up with six brothers may have helped
Denise accept challenges in her life and taught her to tolerate pain
or discomfort, but her football injury is proving just how tough she
really is. For the last seven months Denise has endured surgical
procedures, leaned on crutches, hobbled in a boot and walked
gingerly with cautious optimism. This woman is tough as nails and
proves herself time and again. As a coach, Val has said “it’s
always tough to lose a player (so) we’re pretty excited about the
fact that (Denise) is almost ready to play again.”
From “easily one of the best linebacker/running
backs in the region,” to “hearing ‘snap’,” to “good as new,” Denise
Thompson is read to keep fighting for her starting spot with the
Tree Town Spitfire! Congratulations on your recovery and we can’t
wait to see you do your stuff on the field all over again.
