February 2, 2008 - When
you see Maria, you definitely do not think “football player.”
Standing just under 5-feet-tall she is a tiny bomb waiting to
explode. I have been told that “strong things can come in
little packages, like TNT,” and this description fits Maria.
“Maria’s quick feet and the fact that she can
easily get lost in traffic along the line of scrimmage will make
it tough for some defenders,” says Coach Val.
By trade Maria is a self-proclaimed ‘café
girl’. She has not played football, but she did try the
“wrestling thing.” Other sports she tried were just too “girly”
for her. She claims her favorite football memory to date is
when she got a black eye early in the practice season.
To psych herself up for the imminent first
full-speed tackle she thinks about her first tattoo or piercing
and she realizes it won’t be so bad.
When asked “how do you feel about playing
football as a rookie,” Maria said, “I love it, it’s one of the
only things that gives me butterflies.”
