Ladies Will Take
To Gridiron In Ann Arbor
CANTON, MI
- Premier women’s full-contact football has made its way to Ann Arbor,
Michigan by way of Toledo!! The former Toledo Spitfire will resume play in
the spring of 2007 as the Tree Town Spitfire while remaining in the National
Women’s Football Association, the world’s biggest and best women’s football
league.
Impossible Dream Sports, LLC founding partner, Sarah Dowd, is thrilled with
the move. “When we started the team four years ago, it was difficult to tell
how well things would go – especially since we didn’t know anything about
Toledo. This time around I feel more secure and confident because Ann Arbor
isn’t new to me. We think our football team will fit well with the community
and its culture.”
Managing partner, Val Sharpe, is equally excited. “The most important thing
in my opinion is to give the ladies who have the courage and desire to play
this game the best possible opportunity to succeed; we owe that to them. Ann
Arbor and the surrounding area fit the bill perfectly regarding facilities,
sports fans, and the people of the community. An added bonus is that it’s
close enough to Toledo that I don’t expect to lose many players from the
2006 roster, which is very important to us.”
The first official Tree Town Spitfire tryout will take place on Saturday,
September 16 at WideWorld Sports Center (www.wideworld-sports.com)
with the start time to be determined shortly. A list of frequently asked
questions can be found on the league website (www.womensfootballcentral.com/Tryouts.htm).
