Columbus Had the Spitfire’s Number

By: Deb Wallace

June 11, 2005 - COLUMBUS, OH - In a game that was dominated by the Columbus Comets, there were several bright spots for the Toledo Spitfire.

On defense, Heather Inderrieden had the lone interception for the Spitfire, while several other players contributed by making some good tackles at the right time. Special teams did the most work in the game in terms of punting and returning the Comets’ kickoffs. Jessie Torda and Amy Wilkins each had five kickoff returns with Torda totaling fifty-eight yards and Wilkins had thirty-four. Joy Youster was the punter and she averaged about 12 yards per punt this game. Offensively, Cathy Yungmann completed two passes and had no interceptions. Yungmann’s passes were to Simone Byrd and Inderrieden, gaining three yards and five yards respectively.

Though the Comets did their best to inflate the score, the Spitfire held on to the very end and allowed only 74 points in the game. After this hard fought game, the Spitfire are looking forward to their last game of the season against the Erie Illusion in Erie, PA. More information can be found at www.toledospitfire.com.
