Spitfire Play Hard
By: Deb Wallace
May 6, 2006 - KALAMAZOO, MI – In
a hard fought game, the Toledo Spitfire lost to the West Michigan Mayhem by
a score
of 31-0.
The
Spitfire special teams were outstanding through out the whole game. They had
28 total yards on kick-off returns and held the Mayhem to only 2 yards on
punt returns. Octavia Griswold had 157 total yards punting.
Denise Thompson and Danee Moore had great games on the defensive side of the
ball. Amanda Thames recorded the lone Spitfire sack of the night.
The
Spitfire offense made a few good drives late in the game, but just could not
find the end zone. One bright spot was Toya Pettaway’s 37 yard run to set up
an attempt to score.
The
Spitfire take the field next Saturday, May 13th in an exhibition
game against the new Fort Wayne Flash. More information about the team can
