Tree Town Spitfire Fall in Kalamazoo

ANN ARBOR, MI, April 22, 2007 - The Tree Town Spitfire (1-1) fell to the National Women’s Football Association powerhouse West Michigan Mayhem 50-0 (2-0) last night at Mayors’ Riverfront Park in Kalamazoo.  Six Spitfire turnovers and Mayhem control of the line of scrimmage put the Spitfire in a 43:36 to 16:24 time of possession hole.

The top Spitfire performance of the evening was that of rookie Leilani Russell who made twelve tackles and broke up two passes in her first start at free safety.  Russell also returned two kicks for 40 yards.  Rookies Jennifer Armstrong and Denise Powell played well in place of linebacker Denise Thompson, who broke her ankle in the first quarter.

The Spitfire will travel May 5 to take on the Milwaukee Momentum (0-1).  Their next home appearance will be May 12 versus the Fort Wayne Flash (1-1).  General admission tickets are available online and at the gate: $10 for adults; $7 for students and seniors; no admission charge for children aged 5 years and under.
