IN THE HUDDLE (Part I)

By Erin Throneberry

New faces, old faces, a New Year!  Welcome to all practice all the time!  And don’t forget the team lifts…

What happened to the days when we could lift a little, practice a little and WATCH a lot of football to learn?  Now that the college season is over and the same is almost true for the NFL season we need to concentrate on our own task at hand.  Our season starts April 19 (not too far off) against Indianapolis.  It will be our first test to see how what we have learned will play out for real.  It is our chance to show our opponents we’re here and we are going to hit hard and fight even harder. more...

IN THE HUDDLE

(Part II)

By Erin Throneberry

Ladies, I have a new respect, admiration, and understanding.  Growing up I was the girl who would turn on football even if my dad wasn’t home.  I am an only child and my father was a firefighter who worked for 24 hours every third day.  I didn’t care if it was college or pro (Saturday or Sunday), I would watch football.  I love football.

As I have grown I have continued to watch and love this game.  In the past two weeks I have learned more about football than in my 37 years watching it.  I have played QB, center, guard and been on defense.  An early team joke was Daneč would again be a utility player – now it’s on me – and I am only the staff writer.  I didn’t sign up for the physical contact, wait I didn’t sign up period! more...

Katie Burnett

By Erin Throneberry

Hey Spitfire, did you know that one of your teammates is studying to be an archaeologist?  Wow!  How cool is that?  Katie’s career has been rather colorful already.  She studied at the University of Delaware and has written and presented a paper titled “From the Caribbean to Curiosity Cabinets: Coral at the Read House.” She spent time in Barbados excavating a site and is now playing the waiting game with Indiana University while they examine her application to pursue her doctorate in archaeology and social context.  Enough said! more...

Stephane Foster

By Erin Throneberry

Stephane Foster is originally from Ontario, Canada.  She has played baseball, volleyball, basketball and has run cross country and track all her life.  She and her sister Koren travelled together playing sports across Canada and the U.S.

Stephane is the wife of Coach Jimmie and mother of Brianna.  Jimmie became a coach to follow and support his wife.  Brianna attends practices with mom and dad.  Coach Val believes in Stephane’s strength and balance, “She is going to do very well on the defensive line this season.”

In terms of football, Stephane says she became interested when she came to the U.S. and heard that women could – and did – play football. more...

Maria "Lil-Hippie" Cieslikowski

By Erin Throneberry

When you see Maria, you definitely do not think “football player.”  Standing just under 5-feet-tall she is a tiny bomb waiting to explode.  I have been told that “strong things can come in little packages, like TNT,” and this description fits Maria.

“Maria’s quick feet and the fact that she can easily get lost in traffic along the line of scrimmage will make it tough for some defenders,” says Coach Val. more...

Kris "K-Dub" Wyscaver

Kris is in her second season with the Spitfire.  She plays to relieve stress and stay athletic.  Kris is a Quality Engineer for Riker Products.  She is married to Samantha and they have three children.  She loves spending time with her family.

When Kris was in High School in Genoa, Ohio she played basketball, softball and ran track.  Nothing in particular stoked her interest in playing for the Spitfire; more...

Andrea Elliott

By Erin Throneberry

Andrea hasn’t played sports since “softball as a little kid.”  She is enjoying her exciting new experience.  Her biggest challenge in playing football is staying focused.  Being an Eastern Michigan University Police Officer, she has worked on multitasking and is trying to bring those skills to her game.

As she receives the ball she is concentrating on being focused, more...
