PLAYER SPOTLIGHT:
Beth Yee
By Erin Throneberry
January 13th is a
very important day for Beth and her husband, Chris, as
she is due with her first child. So late in her
pregnancy, she has had trouble getting up and down the
stairs, as all the moms can attest, and can only imagine
she "might be a little slow off the line in 3 months!"
Beth played soccer and
volleyball in high school and then just pick-up sports
through college and "the afterlife." One of those sports
was flag football. A mutual friend of hers and Coach
Val crossed her path at a game and learned that she
planned to try out for the then-Toledo Spitfire. Beth
made the team and is now preparing for her 3rd
season.
During the day, Beth is a
Quality Engineer. She takes pride in her job, as well
as her football "memories," which includes her many
bumps and bruises. She is physically and mentally
tough. She doesn't back down from life's many
challenges nor does she back down from opponents.

SPOTLIGHT:
Denise Powell
By
Erin Throneberry
What do an entrepreneur, a
politician, a UPS supervisor, a farmer, and an executive
assistant all have in common with a Detective Sergeant with the
Michigan State Police? They are Tree Town Spitfire
teammates, of course!
Second year player Denise Powell is
with the State Police assigned from the Northville
Headquarters. She has had an awesome career with many
opportunities. She started on the road as a trooper from the
Pontiac Post, she has been a report writing instructor, assisted
as a physical fitness assessor and served as an undercover
officer in narcotics. Her favorite position has been her
opportunity to work cold case homicides. She has also worked
with the Governor's Security Detail.

THREE
AND OUT -
FOOTBALL THE COACH TED WAY
By Ted Moore
Well, the holidays
have come and gone - now it is time to really start focusing on the
upcoming season. Everyone had a nice break and should now be eager
to return to practice. With just over 100 days until the season
opener scheduled for April 19th, the ladies of the
Spitfire are getting ready to kick some butt in 2008!! Today marks
the beginning of our three practices-a-week and two weight training
sessions-a-week routine.
Hopefully everybody
got what they wanted for the holidays – especially any needed
football equipment. The team will start wearing helmets in just a
couple of weeks (start working on those neck muscles, smile). This
is always an exciting time - especially for the rookies - as
everything comes together and they get the true feel of being
football players.
Once we get into
February, the shoulder pads will come out and by the end of
February, these ladies will be in full gear for every practice.
